Carmel Clare was born in 1964 Penkth, England and raised in Burlington, Ontario. As a young woman, traveling Canada, she was struck by British Columbia’s dramatic landscape and ocean and made it her home in 1989.

This landscape is her inspiration—it fuels her desire to paint. Her subjects include washed white riverbeds, dark forests, mist off the river, storm clouds blowing over the water, and warm sunlight reflected on bleached driftwood.

In 1985, Clare’s first explorations of portrait, still life, and landscape were made using watercolours. Now her passion is to paint in acrylic, experimenting with texture and bold colour.  Her vast experience with watercolour has transferred over to her use of acrylics allowing her to apply underlying loose washes and layering with control and precision.

Carmel Clare was inspired and taught by many respected artists in British Columbia and currently is in a mentoring program with Kiff Holland and Dean Croft honing her skills in their North Vancouver studio.  Guided by their experience and direction, Clare is excited about her career as an artist as she moves to her next level of expression.
