BiographyFaces 2000 Laurie Allinson: Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Equestrian, Legal agent and Artist.

Born in December 1959 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Laurie grew up on the North Shore, but as an avid equestrian she moved with her family to the Fraser Valley in 1971 where they could have acreage for her horses.

A self taught artist since her teens Laurie did not pursue a career in art until 1989 when her pencil drawing “Anacacho Run” won honorable mention in a competition for the Hastings Park Racetrack. Laurie finds that the creation of art is a great escape from the stresses of everyday life. She continues to try all mediums and says that she still hasn’t found “her style”; however, the colourful work she creates are most certainly one of a kind!

Artist statement:

Exploration. I am very fortunate to have the ability to share my life with many wonderful and talented individuals who inspire and encourage me everyday.
Art is my passion, I can’t always say with complete confidence that I am an artist however when I create a work that makes me feel alive I believe I am.

Evolution. My wish is to create art with my soul in mind. To overcome the restrictions and boundaries my own insecurities seem to place on my work.
A slow and steady progress of growth and knowledge, endless hours of struggles with blank canvas and paint.
My work changes direction as often as the wind. I have not yet found “my style” if there is such a thing. There are so many mediums/techniques available I can not imagine using just one.

Challenge. I try to “do one thing each day that scares me”. While walking this path I have grown and experienced things I never thought possible. My life is like a cartoon, unbelievable, colourful and just when I think I am at the end of my rope something happens that saves me.

Laurie’s work can also be seen at the Stanley Park Painters Circle Weekends and Holidays year round.
