Donna Leavens
Biography
I was born into a farming family in a culturally diverse community in northern Alberta. Creative processing emerged in my early childhood as I built sculptures with bleached cattle bones and collected river rocks and wild flowers on the pastures of our family farm.
My artistic journey led me to the Alberta College of Art, Calgary, for four rich years, where I graduated with a degree in Advertising.
Following graduation I worked in Saskatoon and Vancouver followed by 32 years in the Tri-Cities. During the ‘Tri-City’ years I focused on family and fine art, working mainly in watercolor, then acrylics. I participated in group and solo exhibitions at local venues, such as, Place des Arts, Coquitlam and the Blackberry Art Gallery, Port Moody.
In 2008 we moved to Murrayville, Langley, BC and I joined the Fort Langley Artists Group. I’ve also shown work in the 2010 and 2011 Langley Art Studio Tours.
I have drawn, painted and crafted, for pay and to pay back, making art for advertising, the gallery and the Sanctuary.
It is challenging for me to find a focus in creativities’ endless kaleidoscope of media and themes, however I often return to nature as reflected in as my 2010 Canada Series of landscapes.
Energetic color and brushwork typify my work which could be described as impressionism.
Donna joined FLAG Spring 2011.
