FLAG raised for Father's Day - Arts and Antiques in the Garden
Erin McKay, Langley Advance
Producers of fine art, crafts, food, and wine will be joining antique dealers for a special event at Cedar Rim Nursery, just in time for Father's Day.

Susan Falk FLAGIt started last year when members of the Fort Langley Artists Group staged their fall show in the naturally beautiful setting of Cedar Rim Nursery. This year, the artists are returning for a bigger and better event that will treat visitors to a taste of all the good things Fort Langley and B.C. have to offer.

Cedar Rim Nursery at 7024 Glover Road presents Arts and Antiques in the Garden, a B.C. Grown Festival, Saturday, July 16, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

"The art show was phenomenal last year," said nursery manager Sue Watson, noting that next weekend's event has grown to become more of a festival.

Joining the artists in the nursery will be Fraser Valley produce growers and producers, craftspeople, and antique dealers.

Guests can taste wine from Langley's Domaine de Chaberton Estate Winery, take home farm fresh strawberries and organically-grown fruits and vegetables, and purchase handmade candles, soaps, hand creams, and fresh and dried flower bouquets and arrangements.

A petting zoo, face painting, and a bounce room will be on hand for the kids, and fine food and drinks will be available. Antique dealers will display their wares, and gardening demos will run hourly on Cedar Rim's 30-acre nursery. Wendel's Fresh Food Cafe will be offering tasty things to eat, with part of the proceeds going to Langley Memorial Hospital.

As well, prints of a unique work of art created by Susan Falk (in photo) of the Fort Langley Artist's Group will be sold to raise money for LMH. During FLAG's last show at Cedar Rim, Falk used pastels to make a piece that portrayed the scene around her, including her art and the flowers. Management at Cedar Rim liked it so much, they used Falk's piece as the cover of their gardener's almanac, which will be on sale during Arts and Antiques.

They also made 150 prints of the artwork. The prints have been signed by Falk, and will be sold to raise money for the hospital. Ten per cent of all the artwork sold during the event, as well as proceeds from a raffle, will go to Langley Memorial.

For members of the Fort Langley Artists Group, being involved in such an event means a chance to reach a broader audience. It is very inspirational, according to FLAG sculptor Larry Green. "The two big events this year were this show and the one at the Langley Centennial Museum, The Best of FLAG," Green said. "It brings such an influx of fresh energies. A lot of people were looking at the work and clearly appreciating it."
