Judy Webber Pastel Artist See 2009 News Clippings
Born in and raised in Vancouver, I spent many of my adult years in Richmond where I raised my family. My love of animals was a natural fit on our small acreage on the Fraser River, having dogs, ponies, horses and cats to love and enjoy. I moved back to Vancouver to finish my working years and then was most delighted to move to the Fraser Valley upon retirement. Now I reside in Cloverdale enjoying my grandchildren, travel, gardening, and golf when not painting.
Biography Art began for me when I fell in love with horses as a young girl and began drawing them endlessly, not unlike many young girls. As an adult I painted for a time in oils, enjoying primarily painting landscapes around our small acreage in Richmond. Then I discovered pastels and knew this was my medium. Again I found myself dabbling in equine art for a period but not for too long as family and work commitments were encroaching on my art time!
Following those busy years of career and family I again picked up pastels and began where I had left off so many years ago. Having moved to the Fraser Valley to retire, I realized how much I had missed painting. I began painting with more passion and commitment to art than ever.
Artist Statement I enjoy painting still life, landscapes and cityscapes that invite bold colours that pop. Enhancing a subject to achieve dramatic colour and light is the most appealing part of painting for me. I have taken workshops with master pastelists, from British Columbia and the US, and every workshop has had an impact on my developing style. I look forward to many more years of learning and of the ongoing process of wonder and change that studying with other artists brings. I hope to balance studio work with more en plein air, as there is nothing like standing in a field and wondering where the day went!
